Vice Minister of Foreign Trade of Peru, Mr. Edgar Vasquez
on Tuesday announced that India and Peru would begin talks for finalization of
comprehensive economic and preferential trade agreement between the two in the
month of June with, Commerce Secretary, Government of India landing at Peru for
the job.
Addressing a Round Table Meeting with members of PHD
Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, the Minister also announced that
Peru has already agreed to welcome Indian businessmen and even its people to
land at it without having a visa for the country provided these have the valid
visa for US, France and even Great Britain and other such countries.
“This aims at strengthening the bilateral trade and
economic relations between Indian and Peru because Peru wants to sign a
comprehensive and preferential trade agreement with India on lines of
agreements that Peru has with other 53 countries in the world though most of
such countries are in the vicinity of Latin American nations”, said Mr.
Vasquez.
Currently, the terms and references preceding to proposed
comprehensive economic agreement between India and Peru are being finalized
which would ultimately lead to conclusion of such an agreement for which talks
would commence in June this year, the Minister explained.
“Peru is likely to open its market for Indian basmati,
mangoes and grapes provided India reciprocates on its demand to open Indian
market for Peru’s fruits, a reference to this effect came on table when I was
having discussions with Indian Agriculture Secretary here this morning at New
Delhi”, emphasized the Minister.
In his opening remarks, Sr. Vice President, PHD Chamber,
Mr. Anil Khaitan emphasized the need for comprehensive economic agreement
between India and Peru on both goods and services so that their trade basket
widens.
Among others who participated on the occasion comprised
Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of Peru, Ms. Luis Cabello; Chairman, Health
Committee, PHD Chamber, Mr. Nishant Berlia and its Co-Chairman, Foreign Trade
and Investment Committee, Mr. Surinder Kalra.
